This session will provide a high level understanding of recent legislative actions regarding prescription drugs and the role that PBMs play in the prescription drug cycle. During 2020, State legislatures in more than 40 states introduced and/or implemented bills regulating pharmacy benefits and various requirements that PBMs must meet as third party administrators. The subject of these actions include affordability and transparency regarding prescription drugs, distribution of manufacturers’ rebates, and licensing as well as other requirements for PBMs. The Federal government is also in process of implementing various requirements regarding affordability and transparency of prescription drugs. Continued actions and focus are anticipated into the future.
